Visiting Madison County

We invite you to visit, shop, dine and stay with us in Madison County.

Madison County has a great museum rich in history, dedicated to keeping history alive through the efforts of many patrons and supporters in the community with changing exhibits throughout the year. We have a well equipped library with an outstanding genealogical section. The Historic Woodbine Hotel and Restaurant-an early traveler’s inn and other sites of historical interest are located in the county.

Each year a number of events take place in Madison County beginning with the Madison County Fair and Rodeo held in March and ending with the Nighttime Christmas Parade in December. Some of these events include the Madisonville Sidewalk Cattlemen’s Association celebration throughout the month of May with a rodeo, steak dinner, dance and scramble calf auction. Our Arts Council productions are gaining recognition as a must see event each year. Madisonville, the Mushroom Capital of Texas hosts the annual Texas Mushroom Festival which occurs in October each year is a two day event second to none, featuring celebrity chef cooking demonstrations, arts, crafts and food vendors on the square as well as wine tasting and displays by local artists.

Lake Madison is a great family spot with fishing and boating, baseball and softball fields, lake house and pavilion, restrooms, and wide open spaces, great for family outings. Several great restaurants, shops and services are located throughout the county.
